PURPOSE:
Student will gain experience in providing services to the campus community by implementing and administering environmental compliance and occupational safety programs along with performing general office/clerical duties.
TASKS/DUTIES:
Follow general instructions and work under the general supervision of the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Department Staff.
Duties performed on campus include, but are not limited to: developing chemical and confined space inventories, inspections (E.G. fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, storm drains) collecting and transporting materials from laboratories, classrooms, offices and other areas on campus, student outreach (E.G. campus fair events, creating social media posts) and other duties as assigned.
Perform clerical and administrative functions such as answering phones, filing and updating records using Microsoft Office products, and other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be enrolled in classes at least half-time (6units undergraduate; 4 units graduate) and provide a copy of class schedule to demonstrate availability.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills, professional, friendly, punctual and detail orientated.
• The ability to follow safe work practices in laboratories and other areas.
• Knowledge of general office equipment and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access Database, etc.)
• Assist with informative training presentations
• Lift and carry up to 45 pounds
• A valid California Driver’s license
• Environmental and Occupational Health, Chemistry or Biology majors are preferred, but not required.
A Live Scan check (at no cost) may be required and completed satisfactorily before candidate can be offered a position with Environmental Health & Safety.
SCHEDULE / HOURS:
Summer/ Fall 15-20 hours per week
Flexible – Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM
