The position is an unpaid internship with the
City of Fullerton’s Parks and Recreation Department.
As a Marketing Graphic Design Intern, you will be given the opportunity to work in a hands-on environment that will allow you to gain real-world experience and build your portfolio. Utilizing your artistic abilities, you will specialize in the creation of marketing materials advertising our department’s events and programs that will be distributed to the public. This real world experience will enable you to use many of the graphic art, communication, and communications law classes that you may have taken in your academic career. In addition, you will be working alongside our marketing team that will provide you with feedback on your designs – feedback that will help you grow as an artist while allowing you to hone your skills for future career endeavors.
The intern must have the ability to work a flexible schedule. This position requires a minimum of 12-15 hours on a weekly basis.
Time spent during the internship will not be entitled to wages and/or benefits. At the conclusion of the internship, a position with the City of Fullerton is not guaranteed.
The ideal candidate will possess the following abilities but not limited to:
- Relevant experience (academic or real-world) in graphic design
- Proven leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing
- Responsibility, accountability, honesty and reliability
- Initiative; self-starter
- The knowledge of and/or ability to:
- prioritize and handle a variety of assignments
- assist in the creation of media and press kits
- create promotional material
- work in a team setting where you both give and receive feedback
- work independently
- create and design your own works of art with prompt completion time
- relevant computer programs such as Adobe, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
As an intern, you will undergo a formal orientation under the City of Fullerton’s Parks and Recreation Department to better understand the Department’s goals and programs. You will also attend weekly team meetings to give personal feedback on current projects as well as receive critiques from experienced staff and other team members studying different disciplines of marketing. In addition, interns will regularly meet one-on-one with the Intern Coordinator to review assignments and projects.
