About the Position
We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented person to help create and maintain furniture products in our Shopify-based point-of-sale and e-commerce system.
This is not a website-development or social-media position. The primary responsibility is taking information from furniture manufacturers, price lists, specification sheets, websites, images, and internal records and turning it into complete, accurate, attractive products that customers can purchase through our website.
The right person will be comfortable learning a new system, working carefully with detailed product information, and following consistent standards. Experience with Shopify is helpful, but strong computer skills, excellent judgment, accuracy, and willingness to learn are equally important.
Responsibilities
- Learn our Shopify-based POS and online product-management system.
- Create new furniture products and prepare them for sale on our website.
- Enter accurate product titles, descriptions, dimensions, materials, finishes, pricing, SKUs, vendor information, and other specifications.
- Create and organize product variants such as size, color, fabric, finish, configuration, or orientation.
- Assign products to the correct collections and categories.
- Add appropriate tags, product types, vendors, and search information.
- Obtain, organize, crop, rename, and upload manufacturer product images.
- Review manufacturer websites, catalogs, specification sheets, and price lists to collect product information.
- Write or edit clear, customer-friendly product descriptions.
- Check products carefully for missing information, incorrect pricing, duplicate products, inconsistent formatting, and other errors.
- Maintain our established product-entry standards and naming conventions.
- Keep a record of products completed, questions requiring review, and missing manufacturer information.
- Help improve the product-entry process as familiarity with the business grows.
What We Are Looking For
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong computer and internet research skills.
- Clear written English and basic copywriting ability.
- Ability to organize large amounts of product information.
- Comfort working with spreadsheets, images, PDFs, websites, and online administrative systems.
- Ability to follow a defined process while recognizing when information appears incomplete or incorrect.
- Dependability and the ability to complete work without constant supervision.
- Willingness to learn about furniture products, terminology, dimensions, materials, and configurations.
Helpful but Not Required
- Experience creating products in Shopify.
- Experience with Shopify POS, Shopify collections, variants, tags, metafields, or CSV imports.
- Previous e-commerce, retail, furniture, merchandising, interior-design, or catalog-management experience.
- Basic image-editing experience using Canva, Photoshop, or a similar program.
- Experience working with manufacturer catalogs and price lists.
- Familiarity with basic product-page SEO.
This Position Is Not Primarily For
- Website programming or theme development.
- Digital advertising.
- Social-media management.
- Graphic design.
- Customer service.
Those skills may be useful, but the main responsibility is creating complete and accurate furniture products for our online store.
Work Arrangement
Initial training and some early work will be completed in person so that the successful candidate can learn our merchandise, systems, terminology, and procedures. Once the candidate demonstrates consistent accuracy and reliability, much of the work may be performed remotely.
The schedule can be flexible, but the successful candidate must communicate reliably and complete agreed-upon work on schedule.
