Employer Outreach and Student Referrals
Faculty are important partners in building employer relationships and sharing opportunities with students. It is important that all CSUN faculty and staff follow ethical and legal guidelines when working directly with employers and sharing opportunities with students.
Here are two important guidelines to follow:
✤ When you receive announcements about internships and employment opportunities, it is helpful if you share the information with CEPD. Simply email the information to CEPD at nazariancareers@csun.edu. A CEPD staff member will contact the employer and assist them with posting that position in Handshake, providing equal access to all CSUN students.
✤ When sharing opportunities with your students, it is important you share the same information with all of your students, as handpicking students or referring your “top” students to an employer is illegal. Once a position is posted in Handshake, you can promote it to students.
NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) provides clear guidance on these issues in the “Faculty Guide to Ethical and Legal Standards in Student Employment” document. Please take time to review the guidelines for working with employers and sharing opportunities with all students.
