Summary:
The Prime Information Service Division Internship program provides opportunities for collegiate students, recent graduates and work force re-entry candidates to explore various careers in Information Technology, within UNC Healthcare System. Potential candidates will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience, working with motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare System IT professionals, while expanding their knowledge base, building resumes and gaining relevant course related and career experience. Interns will work on tasks and projects as determined by the team/department they are working with. Responsibilities will include shadowing our senior team members coupled with hands on task and project assignments. The below positions may involve support of various hospitals and clinics within the UNC Health Care System, but will be employed by Rex Hospital, Inc.. End Users Support(1): Position reports onsite (Morrisville, NC)
Role and Responsibilities:
Assists in ensuring network security by enforcing passwords, installing virus protection software, encryption technology. Adheres to policies and procedures, creating user-profiles, administers files and folders security and storage capacity.
Manages desktop peripheral inventory and assists with asset management. Maintains accurate records for device changes. Updates the inventory system whenever a computer is installed or relocated to provide accurate information.
Participates in evaluating products in compatibility, flexibility, and ease of use including the design of application options with mainframe applications.
Performs installation and configuration of hardware and software applications.
Provides customers with technical support and incident resolution related to hardware and software. Provides initial training to familiarize the customer with the operation of the system. Performs desktop moves in a timely manner, based on user/organization needs.
Clinical Engineering(1): Hybrid- Onsite (UNC Rex Hospital Raleigh, NC)/Remote position
Role and Responsibilities:
Assist with a variety of functions to assist the Clinical Engineering department in supporting medical devices across the Healthcare system.
Tasks will include learning about new clinical systems, creating documentation and compiling data to be used for equipment replacement planning, assisting with implementing new technology, assessing, and addressing cybersecurity risks in medical devices, and developing departmental processes.
This may include travel to other sites to support clinics. The intern will work under close supervision of a Clinical Engineering tech as most work requires technical expertise and sometimes certifications, however, we will seek opportunities to provide some autonomy.
Enterprise Analytics and Data Science (3 positions): Hybrid- Onsite (Morrisville, NC)/Remote positions
EADS Intern 1: Investment Management(Hybrid)
Work closely with the analytics teams to understand the wide array of reporting and analytics options and different roles within the department, ensuring a collective effort in overcoming the backlog challenges.
Review, triage, prioritize, and communicate updates about the backlog of reporting and analytics requests. Develop and implement strategies to expedite the resolution of outstanding tasks.
Maintain clear and effective communication channels with internal stakeholders, keeping them informed about the progress of the backlog project and managing expectations.
Gain in-depth knowledge of the full stack of healthcare analytics tools available to the Enterprise Analytics department, our community peers, and the general clinical and operational consumers at UNC Health. Leverage this expertise to enhance efficiency in addressing the backlog.
Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of the backlog project’s progress and methodologies for future reference.
EADS Intern 2: Data Science(Remote)
Attends regular meetings for the data science team data science platform and EADS
Assist with the expansion and streamlining of processes for the AI & Automation Advisory work group
Demonstrate familiarity with R/ Python and know how to use commonly used packages like dplyr, and data.table, ggplot2, tidyr in R or NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-Learn, PyTorch in Python.
Work with the Data Science manager to ensure that the Data Science team’s assets meet our Architectural/Visualization Standards.
Research and synthesize knowledge and information from various internal and external industry/domain sources to inform strategic and tactical planning.
EADS Intern 3: Analytics Community(Hybrid)
Work cross-functionality with teammates across the system to create engaging content that develops our employees in the area of data and analytics.
As a content creator, you are driving engagement in our MS Teams chat room, publishing content on our Intranet page, developing communications, and – generally – developing your brand and network to become an influencer in the data and analytics space
Assist with event planning for the 2024 Healthcare Data and Analytics Association Conference, hosted by UNC Health, and support the event logistics for the HerSpark.org Summer Summit.
IT Networking(2): Hybrid- Onsite (Morrisville, NC)/Remote position
Provides connectivity between locations, to datacenters, to hosted and cloud-based enterprise applications, and the internet.
Assist network team with day-to-day tasks, including router/switch installation, patching network drops, documentation, IDF clean up, and UPS replacement as well as other tasks necessary.
Must be able to lift 50lbs.
IT Training(1): Hybrid- Onsite (Morrisville, NC)/Remote position
Participate in technology training for the electronic health record.
Work with numbers and learn how to make the numbers tell the story.
Assist the team as they train 152 classes every 2 weeks to onboard new employees. Also get exposure by assisting the team training in Learning Made Simple (LMS), iNFOR and Microsoft 365.
Participate in the auditing of SharePoint and LMS materials.
